So the official release of Silverlight 1.0 has been announced on Scott Guthrie's blog. The most interesting thing I found on reading this post was the introduction of "Moonlight".
Moonlight is codename for the Linux compatible Silverlight, which will developed by Novell in partnership with Microsoft. Moonlight will support all distributions of Linux and will support Opera, Konqueror and Firefox browsers. Moonlight will also support Silverlight 1.1 (currently in Beta). This is absolutely fantastic news as it shows that Microsoft can at least make some commitment to cross platform support.
However, given that Silverlight is an internet based technology coupled with the fact that IE is losing ground in the browser wars, it was the only real sensible choice for the software giant to make, if they ever want Silverlight to become a popular development platform.
